The spread offense was one of the best formations to use in the late 80’s. Players like Warren Moon got into the Hall of Fame playing in a run and shoot offensive scheme. This scheme is the cousin of the Compression Offense. The purpose of the Spread is to “spread” the defense out. This help the QB read the defense better and allow him to attack the weaker areas of the defense. The Spread also allow you to have better running lanes. This is why the Redskins use this set and the Colts. Peyton Manning use spread sets so that he can make the necessary adjustments at the line to move the ball. The Spread use some of the same things that the compression uses. The un-covered WR and marrying of routes are two things that are transferred from one system to another. This set is also good for mobile QB’s. They can read the spy, robbers, and contain defenders. The Spread is also used in NCAA, as well as the NFL. Steve Spurrier is a fan of the spread offense and he has won many NCAA Bowl games doing so. In a Madden scene many people that have problems reading defenses or running the ball get a great advantage using the spread. You’re starting to see more and more people use spread sets now than before. The problem with the Spread is pass protection.

UN- Covered WR

The Spread allow you to force the defense to man everyone up and account for everybody. Look at the SL3 to the left. If he is open for a quick pass he should be you first read.

All you have to do is make him your primary and fire off a quick pass. This is something that I do when I lab the Spread Attack.

Man Coverage

You need man beating routes like drags or slants, when the defense decides on going with man 2 man once they see that they can't run zone's on you.

You will see that you have plenty of time. The thing is when you run the spread you need to have outstanding timing. Look at the routes that are open to you, and hit the open receiver.

Easy quick pass in traffic to the FL. If the person would had clicked on they would have been burned due to a quick hitter.

Heat

You can read heat a mile away. Look at how the DB's and the MLB aren't on anybody. This should top you off to heat is coming down the pike.

Remember, read and react.
